Multi-regional architecture for IT distributor BAKOTECH

Web Design & Development

BAKOTECH is an international True Value Added IT Distributor with over 20 years of experience in implementing innovative IT solutions. The company operates in 27 countries across Europe, the Baltic States and Central Asia.

Our task was to create a corporate website as a single point of content management that adapts to the user's country and language for 31 countries.

The main challenge was localisation, not translation

The previous website no longer matched the scale of the business, so we designed the platform from scratch. The key challenge was achieving deep localisation: users in a specific region should only see relevant news and events, but also have a choice of several languages.

In this project, localisation is a matrix of dependencies, not just text translation:

  • One region may have two or three official languages, and there are 31 such regions.
  • Content (news, webinars) may be relevant for Kazakhstan but not needed for Poland.
  • Content managers should not have to spend time manually duplicating a single news item in dozens of sections.

Implementation

1. Smart content architecture

We have built a system in which content exists in a ‘matrix’ of regions and languages:

  • Global publication: basic content (e.g., English-language content) is created once and is available in all regions.
  • Local adaptation: for each market, material can be quickly edited for each market to suit the local context without disrupting the overall structure.
  • SEO uniqueness without duplication: each page remains unique to search engines, while avoiding the creation of dozens of ‘heavy’ copies in the database.

2. Event page lifecycle

BAKOTECH holds many events, so we implemented dynamic event page logic:

  • Before the event: a full-fledged landing page with registration, description, and announcements.
  • After the event: the page automatically moves to the archive; , where users can request materials such as recordings of speeches, presentations, etc.
3. WordPress as a challenging platform for non-standard logic

The project was implemented on WordPress: this provided access to the plugin ecosystem, but raised the practical question of how to coordinate their work in the context of complex multi-regional logic.

We developed custom integrations between solutions for multilingualism, regional filters, and SEO settings, combining everything into a single mechanism.

Result

The project became a test: standard WordPress tools did not always withstand the load of multi-level logic, so some of the functionality had to be customised and optimised during development. As a result, we:

  • Created a multi-regional platform for 31 markets.
  • Implemented a content distribution system that significantly reduces the content team's workload.
  • Received positive feedback from the client's audience which is a key indicator of the solution's quality.

This case study demonstrates how to maximise the potential of a popular CMS and solve atypical enterprise tasks through thoughtful architecture and custom logic.
